Simon Belmont in LittleBIGPlanet

If you don’t play LittleBIGPlanet on PS3, you probably have no idea what the community is like. A good portion of the game’s appeal is based around its level builder. This is an incredibly powerful set of tools which lets players design and construct their own stages and then post them in the game’s community are for people to play and rate. Unsurprisingly, since these people are gamers, a number of the levels reference, or even directly look like, other games. A subset of these are levels that are basically giant music boxes. Generally, you hop into a vehicle that rolls at a fixed speed, or drag an object, or even just run through the level and the music plays as the notes trigger as you move, playing music from the game.

Case in point is this level I played last night which features a song from a Konami racing game and a number of sprites from other classic Konami games, including Gradius, Metal Gear, and… Castlevania. I captured this shot on the way through the stage. It’s a reproduction of the Simon Belmont whipping sprite from the first NES game. Neat! The level is called, “Sound of Konami GT (RF2) [ver1.02] MUSIC LEVEL (for maniac).” Search for the name nano_rino, and you’ll find the creator.
