The Poltergeist King revealed!

The US instruction manual for Dracula’s Curse has a story that’s every bit as stupid as most of the other Castlevania instruction manuals. In this case, the manual mentions a mysterious “Poltergeist King,” who apparently gave Trevor Belmont the Vampire Killer whip. There’s no mention of this Poltergeist King within the game, but this is no surprise. Instruction manuals for Japanese games were often written completely independent of the storyline of the original games. Perhaps it was assumed nobody cared. For the most part, they were probably right.

Still, it’s strange for them to take such a wild stab at introducing something to the lore of an established franchise. Further, look at this terrible video from an episode of Captain N: The Game Master where the Poltergeist King actually makes an appearance. Well, the first one’s not the real one, but keep watching. Not only will you catch the real Poltergeist King, but you’ll see everyone’s favorite pretty boy Alucard… as a ridiculous skater kid. This is gold, people.

Check the scans from the manual from my own copy of Dracula’s Curse below. That way you can see for yourself what it looks like in context. Note the hilarious image of the teeth in the glass. Ahem.
